The Canton Theatre in the heart of downtown was abuzz with activity Thursday afternoon as patrons packed the house in anticipation of the final performance of Beth Henley's Pulitzer Prize winning "Crimes of the Heart" by the Cherokee Theatre Company.

The story, set in Mississippi in 1965, revolves around the tumultuous lives of three sisters and their battles with each other and and an outside world that has been less than kind to all of them.

Becca Bowden (Lenny McGrath), Ruthie Moore (Meg Magrath) and Lindsay Sparks (Babe Magrath) turn in outstanding performances of the three main characters. Max Sandberg (Barnette Lloyd), Morgan Vaughn (Chick Boyle) and Cody Vaughn (Doc Porter) were tremendous in their supporting roles.

Ed Palombo, director of "Crimes" said it was exciting to watch his young actors play characters who were about the same ages as they were, noting it was more difficult to play someone your own age than an older or younger character.

The Cherokee Theatre Company will be performing the murder mystery dinner piece "The Last Bite of Chocolate" on March 9 at 7 p.m. at St. Michael's Parish Hall in Woodstock. Tickets are $25 per person or $125 for a table of six. Call 770-591-0282 for more information or to purchase tickets.
