Cherokee County Sheriff Roger Garrison was sworn in by Chief Probate Judge Keith Wood at the Cherokee County Justice Center in Canton on Dec. 28.

Garrison, who won re-election in July over Republican challenger David Waters, has promised that his sixth term of office will be his last as sheriff in Cherokee County.

"The motto going around the office has been, 'It's our last term, but it will be our best term,'" Garrison told the assembled well wishers, law enforcement officials and family members in courtroom 1B after his swearing-in ceremony.

Garrison's personal Bible was held by his wife Sheila and son Wes, who both accompanied him at his first swearing-in ceremony 20 years ago.

"20 years ago I held Wes for pictures, I'll need a new approach this time!" Garrison wrote in an e-mail invitation to his swearing-in.
