No bomb devices were found during sweeps of the Cherokee County Justice Center and the Historic Courthouse today, but authorities have received word of a second bomb threat in Cherokee, the spokesman for the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office said this afternoon.

Around 10:54 a.m. today, a man called from a pay phone in Atlanta. The person said there was a bomb at the Cherokee County Justice Center.

"The information was provided by Atlanta 911 who advised they had received a call from a pay phone in Atlanta and a male voice made the threat," Lt. Jay Baker said. "The Cherokee County Justice Center and the Historic Courthouse next door were immediately evacuated."

The major streets around Canton's downtown square were closed as agencies, some from as far as Fulton and Gwinnett Counties, searched both buildings.

During the search, "a second bomb threat to the Cherokee courthouse was received by Cobb County 911," Baker said. "The courthouse will remain secure for the rest of the evening and will resume normal operations tomorrow."

Despite the second threat, Main Street reopened just before 4 p.m. today. North Street, however, remains closed.
