Cherokee County's high school students enrolled in a home study program will have an opportunity to take virtual classes offered by the Cherokee County School District.

The courses will be offered for both initial credit and credit recovery for students.

"While these students would be required to enroll in the school district as full-time students, not all coursework is required to be completed on a high school campus because of on-line options," according to a school district news release. "Also, using certain options, virtual coursework taken as part of a full-time course load can be tuition free for these students."

The district is utilizing the Georgia Virtual School and its local APEX program to provide students with "viable course completion options." During the 2011-12 school year, over 2,900 Georgia Virtual School or APEX courses were earned or recovered towards the goal of high school graduation by district students.

Home-school high school students who are interested should call the district's Office of Education Programs at (770) 479-1871.
