Cherokee Charter Academy has picked the successor to the school's inaugural principal.
Dr. Scott O'Prey has been tapped to become the academy's second-ever principal. He is following in the wake of Vanessa Suarez, who left the charter school to relocate to Florida to be closer to her family.
O'Prey has 28 years of experience in the education field, and has served in roles such as principal, social studies principal, and director for school social workers in schools in Texas and Georgia.
“Mr. O’Prey’s extensive and varied experience at all levels is a tremendous asset to Cherokee Charter Academy,” said Billie Miller, vice-president of education for CSUSA in a statement. “His dedication to the success of every student and strong community involvement will ensure a smooth transition for the students and parents.”
O'Prey earned his bachelor's degree in secondary social studies from the State University of New York. He earned a master's degree in education administration from Sam Houston State University in Texas, and stayed in the Lone Star State to earn his doctorate in education administration and supervision from the University of Houston.
O'Prey has lived in Towne Lake since 2000, according to a letter he sent to parents of CCA students. That letter has been attached to this article.
