Here's what the critics are saying:

There's little magic to be had from watching "Now You See Me," a splashy, noisy and frankly preposterous action caper about a quartet of illusionists with a Robin Hood complex. For all the talent up on the screen — and one can't fault the performances — the movie just doesn't deliver. — Gary Goldstein, LA Times

The problem is that, in focusing on what makes a good caper, director Louis Leterrier forgot about what makes a good movie: character development, carefully constructed tension and believable plot points. — Stephanie Merry, The Washington Post

It's all about the game, the tricks, with no deeper context or involving motivation other than a vaguely stated impulse for Robin Hood-ish redistribution of wealth. — Todd McCarthy, The Hollywood Reporter

At times, "Now You See Me" suggests Christopher Nolan's "The Prestige" made with a throwaway wink. The actors . . . look like they're having so much fun that you can forgive the periodic arbitrariness of it all. — Owen Gleiberman, Entertainment Weekly
