Due to the assistance of the public, the Canton Police Department has secured arrest warrants for the suspect in the recent string of burglaries in the Great Sky subdivision.

Detectives have obtained arrest warrants for Paul Phillips, a 58-year-old white male who resides in Canton. Although Phillips is currently in the hospital, he will soon be arrested and charged with three counts of first degree burglary and one count of second degree burglary.

According to the Canton Police Department, the first break in the case was made when investigators linked Phillips to a burglary at Antique Village Mall on Sunday.

During the burglary, Phillips' face was captured by security cameras and he was identified by "numerous persons," said the department. Detectives looking into Phillips' activities at local pawn shops discovered that he had pawned items of jewlery on April 22 that were reported missing from Great Sky. Further investigation on this lead confirmed the jewlery Phillips pawned and the jewlery stolen from Great Sky was one and the same.

As the investigation progressed, more clues and tips from the public tied Phillips to the burglaries, including his physical description, his Ford truck, and even two large dogs that were kept in the back of the truck, which were noticed by a concerned citizen reporting unusual activity in her neighborhood.

The Canton Police Department thanked the many people who provided helpful information to the investigation on their Facebook page, saying that, "information and descriptions either by phone in person or through the use of social media...has proven to be an invaluable tool in today’s time."
