Cherokee County's first aquatic center will soon open up shop for its first swimmers.

The aquatic center on Gresham Mill Parkway in Holly Springs will hold its open house and grand opening 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday May 11. A ribbon cutting for the facility is set for 10 a.m. Thursday May 9.

Hours of operation and admission prices have been posted on the Cherokee Recreation and Parks Agency's website

The center will consist of 48,000 indoor facility, and an 18,000 square foot outdoor leisure pool and deck area.

The center will include an indoor 50-meter competition pool with spectator seating for 700; an indoor 25-yard recreational pool with warmer water for therapy, exercise and instruction; two indoor poolside classrooms and party rooms; a spacious lobby; and seating areas with pool overlook.

The outdoor leisure pool will include features such as an aquatic play structure, water cannons, a zero-depth entry area with geysers and deck sprays, a current channel and basketball hoops, beach entry and pavilions.

A concession stand, locker rooms and family restrooms will serve both the indoor and outdoor facilities.

Residents can still register for swim lessons at the aquatic center.

Cherokee County in 2011 awarded a $15.7 million contract to New South Construction to build the facility, which will be located off Sixes Road.
