The Canton Theatre showed its first motion picture in nearly 40 years with the Thursday airing of "Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark."
The ceremonial ribbon cutting for the new equipment was held on Thursday on the stage of the historic theatre. The stage was crowded with dignitaries from the City of Canton, the Cherokee Chamber of Commerce, and other arts and governmental bodies.
Theatre Manager Bob Seguin, who called the building his "man cave," has been credited with spearheading the drive to get $51,000 in new equipment to modernize the theatre and open it up for more corporate and family-friendly events.
The Canton Theatre is currently seeking sponsors for a Saturday movie series which would allow free admission for children and their parents.
