The Creekview High School teacher who was arrested last month for allegedly having a sexual relationship with a student has been indicted by the Cherokee County Grand Jury for his actions.
Matthew Tamanini, 31, of Canton was indicted on one count of sexual assault of a person in custody during the February indictment session of the grand jury.
Tamanini was initially arrested and charged with two counts of sexual assault of a person in custody on Jan. 16, following an investigation by the Cherokee Sheriff's Office and the Cherokee County School District.
Investigators believe that Tamanini and the student engaged in sexual relations over a four-month period, and that two of the encounters occurred on the Creekview campus.
According to the Cherokee Tribune, Tamanini resigned from the school district effective Jan. 31, citing personal reasons.
If convicted of sexual assault of a person in custody, Tamanini faces a minimum prison sentence of 10 years.
