What's Closed On President's Day in Cherokee

Most government offices in Cherokee County will be open on Monday Feb. 18 in observance of President's Day.

Business will mostly operate as usual in Cherokee County on Monday Feb. 18, which is President's Day.

The government offices for Woodstock, Canton, Ball Ground, Waleska and Cherokee County will all be open and operating their normal business hours.

However, the city of Holly Springs' government offices will be closed on Monday in observance of the holiday and will reopen for normal business hours on Tuesday Feb. 19.

The Holly Springs City Council also rescheduled its work session and meeting for 6:30 p.m. Thursday Feb. 21 at Holly Springs Municipal Court

The Woodstock City Council has cancelled its normal work session scheduled for Monday and will meet at 7 p.m. Monday Feb. 25.

Monday also kicks off the week-long break for the Cherokee County School District. Classes will resume and district offices will open back up on Monday Feb. 25. 

Cherokee Charter Academy will also have a week-long break and resume classes on Feb. 25. 

Reinhardt University in Waleska and the Canton and Woodstock campuses of Chattahoochee Technical College will both be open for classes and operations.

The Sequoyah Regional Library System's branches in Cherokee will also be open.  

Most banks will be closed on Monday, and the United States Postal Service will close its post offices.

President's Day is a national holiday observed each year on the third Monday of February.

Originally coined as a national holiday to celebrate the birthday of George Washington, it became known as President's Day after the Uniform Monday Holiday Act of 1971 was passed in an attempt to collectively observe national holidays on Mondays.
