UPDATE (5:45 p.m.): According to a press release from Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services, Roberts (who is not named in the press release) was working on the 1973 model forklift when part of the mast or upright broke loose and crushed him.
Cherokee Fire and Emergency Services personnel worked with Mauldin's Body Shop to safely stabilize the forklift so Roberts' body could be removed, said the press release..
According to the release, Cherokee County Fire Chief, Tim Prather, said that safety is a priority in a situation like this so that no additional injuries occurred.
UPDATE (3:30 p.m.): According to a Cherokee Sheriff's Office press release, the deceased worker has been identified as Josh Roberts, 21, of Woodstock. Authorities said that Roberts was crushed by a forklift and pronounced dead on the scene.
ORIGINAL STORY: A male worker of at the Little River Marina was killed in a workplace accident this morning, according to authorities.
Lt. Jay Baker of the Cherokee Sheriff's Office said that deputies were dispatched to the marina at 11:19 a.m. to respond to a workplace accident. Upon arrival, deputies discovered a deceased male who worked at the marina.
Investigators currently believe the man was killed in an accident involving a forklift.
"At this time, there's no foul play suspected," Baker said.
Sheriff's Office detectives remain on scene, alongside Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services personnell. Representatives from OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) are en route to the marina.
